Hostingshelf has been in continuous operation since 2004. Hostingshelf was originally called crexweb.com, an off-shoot of our web design business in Washington state called Elliott Bay Web Design (not to be confused with the current business by that name). When we relocated to the midwest, the company name was changed to crexweb.com, in recognition of the many such businesses in the northwest Wisconsin area we were in - Crex Meadows, and Crex Realty, etc. We were busy designing websites and owned a variety of domains so with the need for hosting for all of our house accounts, and the need for hosting for client websites, why not start a web hosting business?
Reseach had shown that it was a good idea for you to have a keyword for the type of business you did in your domain name so after a little research we came across the hostingshelf.com domain and thought it had a catchy sound to it, and it met our criteria so HostingShelf.com was created.
Aside from the occasional foray into ebay to run hosting specials we have grown our business through word of mouth. Although we're small, we're scrappy and HostingShelf currently hosts over 30 domains with most of our customers having been with us an average of over 2 years.
We don't have a big advertising budget. We keep our cost down by NOT investing in high price overhead that demands aggressive sales tactics in order to survive. We keep everything modular. We have rack servers ready to bring online whenever our revenue reaches the point that we need to expand from what we have currently. We currently maintain dedicated servers in a data center in the well known Oak Tower in Kansas City, Missouri. What are the advantages of this? We can house our server files in a world class data center with secure facilities and technical staff on hand. If a hardware failure occurs someone from the data center will swap out the broken equipment and our server will be back up and running without any additional cost to us or more importantly, to our customers. The provider we lease from at this time has an excellent uptime track record. We have experienced very little downtime with our current data center. We moved from leasing server space to dedicated servers in September, 2011.
Thank you for taking the time to check out our website and hope you will give us the opportunity to meet your internet presence needs. Thanks!
